Waterbird Census Summary 1998

This was the second full year of intensive waterbird surveys of most of the wetland areas on the Patuxent Research Refuge. The inventory has expanded to cover 53 areas encompassing approximately 575 acres plus segments of the Little Patuxent and Patuxent Rivers. A few new areas were added in 1998 including Schangri-la and Midway Marsh on North Tract, Shaeffer Ponds, Sundew Pond and the WSSC Ponds on Central Tract and Fire Control Pond on South Tract.
