The project consists of point counts of bird populations taken from conservation projects being managed by Unique Places LLC, a private land conservation, restoration, and management company. Most of the properties sampled in this project are owned by "130 of Chatham LLC" (130CHM), aka Tim Sweeney, a private conservationist land-owner in North Carolina who currently owns around 40,000 acres. Discussions are currently underway with NC Audubon to designate some of these lands as Important Bird Areas (IBAs), and the data gathered in this project is meant to inform that process. There are also a number of ecological restoration and management projects underway on 130CHM lands, and the bird data collected in the project will hopefully be used to measure management effects and inform adaptive management.
