Citizen Science

You don't have to be a scientist to contribute to important research. There are many projects that recruit individuals to perform tasks that allow scientists to attain their goals in a more timely manner. The individuals who volunteer to participate in these investigations are referred to as Citizen Scientists. Everyone benefits from this type of collaboration.

Annual Census
National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count (CBC) (HTML Document) The Christmas Bird Count is a National Audubon Society early-winter bird census, conducted in the period from 14 December to 5 January each season, with each count is conducted in one calendar day. The Great Backyard Bird Count (Online Application) The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent.
Active Projects
Pacific Flyway Shorebird Survey (HTML Document) A coordinated, multi-partner monitoring program led by Point Blue Conservation Science to quantify trends and habitat associations of wintering shorebirds in the Pacific Flyway to inform their management and conservation.
Point Blue Long-billed Curlew Volunteer Project (HTML Document) The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Audubon California, and Point BlueConservation Science are looking for citizen scientist recruits to learn more about Long-billed Curlew use of inland valleys in California.

eBird California (HTML Document) This easy to use, powerful birding resource is supported by Audubon California and Point Blue Conservation Science. Help us learn more about California birds by reporting your observations here! Submit your sightings through California eBird - (all data entered in California eBird are integrated nightly with CADC).
